About -

'Established by Michelle Phillips in 2010, Mimi’s Bakehouse has become one of Edinburgh’s best-loved bakeries and an award-winning brand which is a well-known “feel good” place to visit loved by locals and tourists alike! Serving all-day brunch, award-winning afternoon tea and a vast range of speciality drinks and cake, there’s something for everyone at Mimi’s.'

During an August visit to The Edinburgh Festival, we were taking a short show break at a nearby gallery, when we stumbled upon Mimi's Bakehouse. After a short look at the cake counter, it was clear that we had to stay for a slice! This branch, there are several around Scotland, is within the City Art Centre.

The visit - The bakehouse is a warm and welcoming environment, a combination of tables for small groups and then several longer tables, where many groups can sit in their own space, but on the long table. As I walked straight towards the cake cabinet, I paused to admire the sea of umbrellas above.

Will I be back? - Yes! In fact we went back just two days later, secretly hoping for a slice of the same cake - but this was not available on this day so I chose a twix slice instead and my partner chose a cheese scone. These were nice and a welcome break from our intense show schedule at the Fringe Festival, but not as special as that first slice of cake! It was good to know that the cake cabinet offer changes regularly, so you can be assured that there will be something new to try each visit.

Extra touches -

Facilities - Toilets are available in the art centre which is just through the electronic doors.

Accessibility - The bakehouse would be accessible to a wheelchair most likely through the art centre doors which were wider than the bakehouse door.

Alternative diets - On the side was the three alternative milks available; oat, coconut and soya
