About - Family run tearoom offering breakfast, lunch and afternoon teas, including a vegan menu, all homemade or sourced from local businesses. With a passion for quality food and big plate breakfasts the Honey Pot is made up of a traditional tea room, coffee shop and based in Swadlincote and Rosliston, Derbyshire.
'Extravagant home made cakes and afternoon tea have been a big part of the menu since the company started. In 2020 The Honey Pot Bakery was officially established in 2020 to supply the tea room & coffee shop with cakes.'
The visit - It was almost midday on a Saturday when I visited, this meant that there was plenty of conversation being had between friends and loved ones already at the cafe. The décor is modern, clean and welcoming. There was plenty of parking and a short walk through Toons shop to get to the café.
The choice of cakes is always one that gives me an internal conflict - What should I choose? Which might be here next time? Should I get an extra one to take away?
I chose to go with one of the plated cakes that were on sale at £1.95 rather than £3.95 for those in the display case. Chocolate cake was the order of the day, with an americano. There were so many cakes that I could have chosen including, crème egg cake and mint aero cheesecake jar.
After we ordered and paid, we found a table, taking our plated cakes with us. We couldn't resist having a few forkfuls of cake, before our hot drinks were bought to us. I didn't regret my choice of Mars cake - it was moist, sweet and chocolatey and plentiful in supply.
The Biscoff cake had equally good reviews, but couldn't be finished - this was not a bad sign, The Honey Pot definitely offer good portion sizes!
Will I be back? - Yes - I have previously visited the Rosliston tea rooms which has very different setting and décor, but equally good service and cake! I would happily visit either of these again and again. I often see the cakes for the day posted on Facebook, and that is always tempting, even if only to daydream of what I wish that I could eat!
Extra touches -
July 2022 - For the duration of the summer holidays kids eat for just 10p with every adult meal over £4.99! Simply choose any lunch sandwich and a glass of squash from the kids menu and all you pay is 10p!
Sandwich flavours are;- Cheese, ham, jam, tuna, egg mayo. Served with Plain Hula Hoops and cucumber sticks! Squash flavours - orange or blackcurrant.
(Applies to children aged 16 and under, 1 child’s meal with every paying adult)
Facilities - Toilets right next to the cafe area. There is plenty of car parking outside and of course the furnishing shop to look around if you wish.
