The Piggery Cafe, Osbaston

About - A family owned rustic café nestled within a farm amongst the sought after Leicestershire countryside. You can turn up on your bike, horse, car, foot, dressed for any occasion. 'We cater for all and that is what makes us unqiue'.

The visit - The Piggery Café is housed in a farm (also the home of the Dandelion Hideaway a glamping site). You can't miss the barns where the café is located as you drive right past it to park. There are two connected barns, both undercover. The first had the hut where you place your order and tables and chairs for sitting at. The second place to choose to sit is a more relaxed seating area with a straw floor. This has a mixture of chairs and seats, some with, some without tables. We chose to sit in this area. Our table was an aged suitcase, this made for a unique setting to enjoy our elevenses.

We ordered and were pleased that we could pay by card, else my snack would have been sadly lacking! The staff were chatty and were talking to us about their cakes beginning to gain their popularity at local car boot sales before then being showcased at The Piggery. By the time we visited the cakes were in short supply as they had a group of bikers in who had almost wiped them out. The people were so lovely that I couldn't help, but be happy for this new business almost selling out. The good news was that there was still a few slices to choose from. I chose the chocolate cake with an americano. The order was bought over by a very helpful young man who checked that we had everything that we needed before going off to tidy the other areas.

The chocolate cake was lovely, but the coffee was a little weak for my liking - this wasn't a problem, they happily added another shot of coffee, pointing out that there was no point sitting there being unhappy with something that they could put right. Sat enjoying the coffee and cake, you could soak in all of the countryside sights and sounds in this unique setting. The Battenburg was served in a generous sized portion and was obviously homemade and I am told was delicious.

Will I be back? - I will be back, probably with family, to share with them this new local business. I am a fair weather person, so it might be a little exposed for me during colder times (though it is all under cover, but open at the sides).

Extra touches - Just behind the barn are the pigs! During our visit we could occasionally hear them, perhaps ordering their own coffee and cake?! After we had finished we went for a walk and could meet these pigs for ourselves. I can imagine this being a great extra for a pig loving person.

Facilities - The toilets are separate to the café - the toilets are rustic outside the cubicle, but this has its own uniqueness and is one of the things that makes this a bit different from other cafes.
